Sudurpaschim provincial assembly tables local services first amendment bill

Dhangadhi: The Sudurpaschim Province Local Services (Formation and Operation) First Amendment Bill 2082 has been formally tabled in the Provincial Assembly.

The bill was presented today by Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Hira Singh Sarki during the assembly session. The original Sudurpaschim Province Local Services (Formation and Operation) Act was enacted last Ashar.

In the same session, the assembly unanimously approved the third annual report of the Public Accounts Committee 2082, based on the proposal of committee chairman Akkal Bahadur Rawal.

A general discussion was also held on the bill to amend the Dalit Empowerment Act, 2078. Provincial assembly member Lalita Sunar emphasized that the amendment aims to empower the Dalit community and eliminate all forms of discrimination, urging for its prompt passage.

Assembly member Laxmi BK noted that the Dalit Empowerment Act, enacted four years ago, has not been fully implemented. She highlighted that the amendment bill, in its current form, does not fully address constitutional provisions and called for the removal of such shortcomings.

Responding to the concerns, Minister for Social Development Meghraj Khadka stated that the amendment bill has been introduced to ensure faster implementation by clarifying ambiguities and resolving legal issues.
