Dhangadhi: Internal revenue collection in Kailali district has consistently fallen short of targets over the past three fiscal years. According to the Internal Revenue Office, Kailali, only Rs 2.67 billion was collected out of the Rs 3.08 billion target in the fiscal year 2080/81, while Rs 2.87 billion was collected against a target of Rs 3.53 billion in 2081/82.

In the first five months of the current fiscal year, revenue collection reached only Rs 780 million out of the targeted Rs 1.10 billion. Chhatra Bahadur Majhi, Information Officer at the office, stated that income tax and value-added tax are the primary sources of revenue, but business closures, economic slowdown, and the impacts of COVID-19 have negatively affected collection.

To provide relief to taxpayers and boost revenue, the office has arranged for a full waiver of fines and up to 75 percent interest waiver on outstanding taxes until mid-Poush. This measure is expected to improve revenue collection in the coming months.
