Mahendra highway in Lamki reopened after fatal accident blockade lifted
Dhangadhi: The Mahendra Highway, which had been blocked by locals following the death of two people in a pickup truck and motorcycle collision in the Lamki area of Kailali, has been reopened.
The accident occurred on Tuesday in Gulara, Lamkichuha Municipality-7, when a pickup truck (Supra 01-001 Ja 1421) collided with a motorcycle (Supra 01-13 Pa 5139) on a section of the Mahendra Highway. Motorcycle riders Gagan Rana Magar, 33, and Pushpa Sunar, 24, of Lamkichuha Municipality-8 died on the spot.
Following the incident, angry locals and relatives of the deceased blocked the highway demanding compensation and strict action against those responsible. The blockade had brought east-west traffic to a complete halt, causing long queues of vehicles.
Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Kailali, Yogendra Timilsina confirmed that the highway has now been reopened, allowing traffic movement to resume.
Police have taken the pickup driver involved in the accident into custody, and further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
