Around 23 lakhs children receive vitamin A under national campaign

Kathmandu: Around 23 lakhs children have been administered vitamin ‘A’ capsules under the National Vitamin ‘A’ Program run by the Ministry of Health and Population.

According to the Ministry’s Information Officer Dr. Bhakta KC, during the program conducted on Baisakh 20 and 21, children were provided with vitamin ‘A’, while 2.1 million children received deworming medicine. Similarly, 800,000 children were given Balvita.

Children aged 6 months to 59 months across the country were administered vitamin ‘A’, those aged 12 months to 59 months received deworming medicine, and children aged 6 months to 23 months were provided with Balvita.

The government, aiming to protect eyesight, boost immunity, reduce malnutrition, and lower child mortality, has been implementing the distribution of vitamin ‘A’, deworming medicine, and Balvita.

Approximately 50,000 female community health volunteers and 15,000 local health workers were mobilized for the National Vitamin A Program. The government has been running the program since 2059 BS and the deworming program since 2067 BS during Kartik and Baisakh of each fiscal year.
