Landslide, lightning and storm kill 16 livestock, 38 missing in Bajura

Bajura: Sixteen sheep and goats have died and 38 have gone missing due to windstorm, rain, landslide and lightning, according to the District Police Office.

While returning livestock that had been taken to graze in the forest at Upper Huni in Jagannath Rural Municipality-2 in the eastern northern part of the district, 16 sheep and goats died and 38 went missing due to landslide and lightning that occurred along with rainfall on Tuesday evening, Police Inspector and Spokesperson of the District Police Office Bajura, Naresh Bahadur Shahi, informed RSS.

According to him, two sheep belonging to Chain Bahadur Bista, a local of the same rural municipality-2, died and nine others went missing. Similarly, three sheep belonging to Amrit Lwar died in the landslide and 14 others went missing, said Police Spokesperson Shahi. Five local farmers from the same ward died, 10 went missing, and three sheep of Ain Bahadur Bista died while five goats went missing after being buried in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall.

Likewise, three sheep and goats died after lightning struck the barn of local Kul Bahadur Saud in Khoya Lek of Triveni Municipality-9, Paima. Police stated that there was extensive damage due to hail and lightning that occurred on Tuesday evening.

In another incident, a shop run by local Veere Rawal in Kanda, Chhededah Rural Municipality-1, Khaptad was damaged due to strong winds. The ground-floor shop made of wood and zinc sheets was destroyed by the wind, according to police.

Police spokesperson Shahi informed that teams from Police Post Kunna, Police Post Badimalika and Police Post Kanda have been deployed to assess damage caused by wind and rain, and details are being collected. Similarly, the Agricultural Knowledge Center in Bajura has stated that ripe wheat crops have also been damaged due to hailstorms.
