Bedkot municipality advances rapidly in infrastructure development
Dodhara Chandani: Bedkot Municipality has made significant progress in infrastructure development over the past few years.
The municipality has prioritized projects demanded at the settlement level and has focused on constructing infrastructure such as roads, bridges, education facilities, and drinking water projects, informed Engineer Pawan Bista, Head of the Infrastructure Development Section of the municipality. According to him, in the last fiscal year, the municipality completed 11 bridges, 33 roads, and five drinking water projects. “Out of the 26.56 kilometers of roads constructed, 4.26 kilometers have been blacktopped,” he said. “We have emphasized infrastructure development by prioritizing projects demanded from the ward level.”
Similarly, in the fiscal year 2080/81, the municipality constructed 36.72 kilometers of roads, while in 2079-80, 29 kilometers of roads were built. The municipality has stated that it has adopted infrastructure as the backbone of development under the long-term goal of building a ‘prosperous Bedkot’. Work such as expanding road access to rural areas, constructing blacktopped and gravel roads, and improving sewage management has been carried out at a rapid pace.
Local resident Khushi Rana said that the expansion of roads into rural areas has improved market access for local products due to easier transportation. “Even though the roads are not blacktopped, many are gravel roads, which has made travel easier for farmers,” he said. “Earlier, due to lack of roads, we had to pay high transport fares for taking vegetables to the market.”
He added that it has now become easier for farmers to sell vegetables, milk, and other agricultural products produced in the village.
Another local resident, Bishnu Jashi, said the municipality should not only focus on infrastructure development but also initiate efforts to establish industries that generate employment. “Infrastructure has been developed, now the municipality should plan to create jobs by establishing medium-sized industries,” he said. “While developing infrastructure, emphasis should also be placed on making structures disabled- and senior citizen-friendly.”
