Nepal Army conducts disaster management exercise in Mahakali river
Mahendranagar: The Nepal Army has conducted “Exercise Monsoon-6” focused on disaster management and rescue operations in the Mahakali River area at Airi, Bhimdatta Municipality-12, Kanchanpur.
The rescue-based model exercise, organized by the Barahadal Regiment under the Nepal Army’s Bhagatpur Barracks, demonstrated disaster response and damage reduction measures to local residents.
Barahadal Regiment Commander Lieutenant Ashok Shahi said the exercise was conducted to inform the public about rescue preparedness and risk reduction during disasters.
“We have gathered for possible flood and natural disaster management in the Mahakali River area,” said Lieutenant Shahi. He added that the army’s technical team is prepared with necessary equipment for disaster response and rescue operations. The exercise also included joint demonstrations involving the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force.
Speaking at the event, Durga Dutta Bohara, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Kanchanpur, urged citizens to remain alert during the rainy season, noting that areas along the Mahakali River are highly vulnerable to floods and disasters. He also highlighted incidents where citizens have lost their lives while swimming or engaging in recreational activities in the river, and cautioned against risky activities such as collecting firewood in flood-prone areas during monsoon.
The program was attended by officials including Chief District Officer Madan Koirala, Assistant Rathi Bijit Raj Regmi, Chief of the 25th Brigade, and members of the District Security Committee.
The model exercise was also conducted with the cooperation of non-governmental organizations, including the Nepal National Social Welfare Association (NNSWA).
