Kathmandu: The main opposition Nepali Congress has raised objections in Parliament following Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s statement that Nepal had also encroached on India’s border.

Responding to questions from lawmakers during the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Shah said that efforts were underway to resolve border disputes, including those related to Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura. He also stated that he came to know only after assuming office that Nepal had encroached on India’s border.

“I only came to know after I became Prime Minister that Nepal had also encroached on India’s border,” Prime Minister Shah said in Parliament.

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Vasana Thapa objected to the statement and demanded clear information regarding it. She urged that Parliament be informed about the specific areas in India where Nepal is alleged to have encroached.

Thapa also drew the Speaker’s attention, stating that if sufficient basis and evidence could not be provided, the statement should be removed from the parliamentary record.

“The House should be further informed on this matter. Otherwise, I will draw the attention of the Speaker to remove the incorrect statement from the parliamentary record,” she said.
