APN Sudurpaschim submits memorandum to electricity authority seeking reduction in school tariff
Dhangadhi: The Association of Pre-School Educators Nepal (APN) Sudurpaschim Province Committee has submitted a memorandum to the Nepal Electricity Authority Dhangadhi office today, demanding a solution to the issue of electricity tariff being imposed on private and institutional schools.
The memorandum, submitted under the leadership of APN Sudurpaschim Province Coordinator Mohan Raj Ojha, was attended by a significant number of founders, principals, and representatives of various Montessori and primary schools in the Dhangadhi region.
Through the memorandum, serious attention has been drawn to the issue of electricity tariffs being imposed on schools in the same manner as commercial industries. The association has demanded the implementation of a separate and concessional tariff structure in line with the sensitivity and social importance of the education sector. It has been stated that the current tariff rate has increased the financial burden on school operations.
APN Sudurpaschim has given the concerned authority a 10-day deadline to address its demands. Coordinator Ojha informed that a phased protest program will be announced if the demands are not met within the stipulated period.
Stakeholders associated with the education sector have expressed the view that the state should be sensitive to the issue and take necessary policy initiatives, noting that private and institutional schools are also an important part of educational services.
