Baitadi bans vehicle movement on rural dirt roads amid monsoon risks
Baitadi: Vehicle operation has been temporarily banned on rural dirt roads in Baitadi. The District Administration Office issued a notice prohibiting vehicle movement on such roads for three days, citing risks associated with incessant rainfall and monsoon-related disasters.
According to the administration, the decision was taken to prioritize the safety of passengers and drivers, as the likelihood of landslides, floods and road blockages remains high during this period. Drivers have been urged to exercise extreme caution even while operating vehicles on paved roads.
As per a notice issued by Chief District Officer Dr. Dijan Bhattarai, the restriction comes after the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority listed Baitadi among high-risk districts for monsoon-related disasters. Vehicle operation on rural dirt roads has been completely banned from 6 pm on Saturday, July 2, to 6 am on Monday, July 4.
The District Administration Office has requested the public to contact the national emergency number 1234, Nepal Police 100, and Armed Police Force Nepal 1114 for information or immediate assistance during any disaster or emergency.
The administration stated that the move is a precautionary measure to ensure public safety at a time when incidents of floods, landslides and road obstructions are increasing across various districts with the onset of the monsoon. It has also urged people to stay updated on weather conditions and avoid non-essential travel.
