Dhangadhi: Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City has handed over a tractor to Hamro Gaushala (Our Cow Shelter), located in Phulbari, Ward No. 14 of the sub-metropolis.

Deputy Mayor Kandakala Rana handed over the tractor to the Gaushala Management Committee. The tractor is expected to facilitate the daily management of the shelter and the care of the cows.

According to Yadav Kumar Bhandari, Chairperson of the Hamro Gaushala Management Committee, around 365 cows are currently housed at the shelter. Eight cowherds are employed to look after them.

The sub-metropolitan city provides a monthly remuneration of Rs 10,000 per cowherd, based on a ratio of one cowherd for every 50 cows. Chairperson Bhandari said the Gaushala pays an additional Rs 5,000 to the cowherds from its internal income.

The Gaushala generates internal revenue through the sale of cow dung and milk.

According to Dr. Samir Thakur, a veterinarian with Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, the municipality also provides support for the treatment and feed of sick cows at the shelter.

For the current fiscal year, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City has allocated a budget of approximately Rs 3.5 to 4 million for livestock management. Dr. Thakur explained that the budget is primarily spent on cowherd remuneration, while the remaining funds cover cow feed, medicine, and general care.

Chairperson Bhandari stated that the handover of the tractor would facilitate the management of the Gaushala. He also expressed his gratitude to Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City for providing the tractor to the shelter.
