Bishnu Poudel will not be released today as Supreme court orders production of case files
Kathmandu: CPN-UML Vice-Chairman and former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel will not be released from detention today. A joint bench of Justices Tek Prasad Dhungana and Meghraj Pokharel issued an order to request additional documents, resulting in no release on Tuesday.
During the hearing of his habeas corpus writ petition, the Supreme Court ordered the production of the original file related to the money laundering case pending at the Special Court. The bench directed that the original case file involving defendants Sulabh Agrawal and Deepak Bhatta be produced from the Special Court for a detailed review of facts and evidence related to the petition.
The habeas corpus writ petition was filed by Poudel’s wife, Domaya Poudel.
According to the court order, the full case file from the Special Court will be submitted to the Supreme Court. The hearing on the writ petition will proceed after reviewing the relevant documents, evidence, and other case details.
The Supreme Court issued the order considering the need for the original file for judicial resolution, as the issues raised in the habeas corpus petition are connected with the money laundering case currently pending in the Special Court.
The money laundering case involving Sulabh Agrawal and Deepak Bhatta is currently under consideration in the Special Court. After the Supreme Court receives the requested file, further hearings and the decision-making process on the writ petition will continue.
