Safe housing construction underway for flood-affected communities in Kanchanpur
Kanchanpur: Construction of safe housing for the flood-affected community in Kanj, Laljhadi Rural Municipality-2, has commenced with joint investment from the rural municipality and the NGO ‘Peshwan’.
According to Rural Municipality Chairman Nirmal Rana, the safe housing building is being constructed through a contract worth Rs 5.9 million. “The rural municipality has contributed Rs 500,000 for the safe housing under the climate resilience program, while the remaining amount is being borne by the organization,” Chairman Rana said.
Janak Lekhak, a technical officer at Peshwan, explained that the safe house is designed to store food and essential items for residents affected by floods along the Doda River, and to provide safe shelter for children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and women. The building will also serve as a venue for meetings, discussions, and training programs organized by the Community Disaster Management Committee.
Similarly, in Punarnwas Municipality-5, Ratotal Simri, construction of another two-story safe house is underway at a cost of Rs 4.6 million in collaboration with the municipality.
