Dhangadhi: Forest fires in various areas of Kailali have been extinguished due to rainfall during the pre-monsoon period over the past few days.

The fires had broken out in different locations across the Terai plains, including the Chure region. According to officials, the fires were brought under control after being doused by rainwater. In earlier instances, fires that broke out in the absence of rainfall had caused significant damage to forest areas.

However, this year, forest damage caused by fires has been comparatively lower than last year, informed Dr. Ramvichari Thakur, Senior Divisional Forest Officer of the Divisional Forest Office, Kailali.

“This year, the fire has not caused much damage,” he said, “We were cautious. The rain also helped.” Thakur stated that fires that erupted in Chure and other areas were extinguished following recent rainfall. He added that while controlling forest fires is somewhat easier in the Terai region, challenges remain in the Chure region.
