Government committed to resolving Lipulekh border issue through diplomatic means: Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the Government of Nepal is committed to resolving the border issue concerning Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani areas through diplomatic means. Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri said the government’s position on the Lipulekh border issue is clear.
“We have made our position public on Lipulekh. Regarding the Kailashman Sarovar Yatra, which is said to be conducted between India and China via Nepali land Lipulekh, we have made our position public on April 20, 2083,” he said. “We have mentioned that the Nepalese government is completely clear and steadfast on the fact that Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani east of the Mahakali are integral territories of Nepal since the Sugauli Treaty of 1816.”
He said the government has once again conveyed its position to both India and China through diplomatic channels. “This is a matter that has already been conveyed to both friendly countries,” he said.
He further stated that Nepal is ready to resolve the issue in accordance with the spirit of close and friendly relations between Nepal and India. “The Government of Nepal has always been committed to resolving the border issue through diplomatic means on the basis of historical treaties, agreements, facts, maps and evidence,” he added.
