Taxpayer Incentive Award: Consumer Who Bought Goods Worth Rs 350 Wins Rs 10 lakhs

Kathmandu: The government has announced the winners of the second fortnightly ‘Taxpayer Incentive Award’ for the month of Shrawan. At a program held at the Ministry of Finance on Monday, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle and Finance Secretary Dr. Ghanashyam Upadhyay announced the winners through a ‘lucky draw’.

The main attraction of the scheme, a bumper prize of Rs 1 million, was won by a consumer who purchased goods worth just Rs 350. According to the Inland Revenue Department, the consumer won the prize through a bill bearing coupon number 026888979039 issued by Ganesh Electronics and Mobile Center.

The winner was selected from approximately 35 million transactions made between 16th and 31st of Shrawan.

Similarly, 16 daily winners were announced for the 16 days from 16th to 31st of Shrawan. Each daily winner will receive Rs 133,334, while the department stated that they will receive a net Rs 100,000 after the deduction of 25 percent tax as per government rules.

All publicly announced winners must claim their prizes by the upcoming 16th of Bhadra. The prize may be canceled if it is not claimed within the specified period.

The government introduced the scheme to develop the habit of obtaining mandatory bills when purchasing goods and to encourage digital payments. Consumers who purchase goods and services through QR codes of banks and wallets will automatically be included in the program. However, they must retain the bill to receive the prize.

Consumers who purchase goods and services in cash must request a PAN and VAT bill after purchasing the goods and services, upload it to the Inland Revenue Department’s website and obtain a coupon to participate in the gift scheme.
