Dhangadhi: Belaspur village in Ward No. 1 of Janki Rural Municipality, Kailali, is now adorned with blooming marigold flowers. By planting marigolds in vacant roadside spaces, local residents have enhanced the village’s appearance while creating an opportunity to generate income through flower sales.

With the aim of making their village clean, beautiful, and attractive, residents planted approximately 3,600 marigold saplings along the roadside. After months of hard work, regular care, and protection, the flowers are now ready for sale. According to locals, around 40 to 50 kilograms of marigold flowers are currently available for sale.

Rajesh Kathayat, a local farmer and the village’s Badghar (community leader), said the initiative was launched with the dual objectives of beautifying the village and generating local income through flower sales. The total cost of cultivation was shared equally, with 50 percent covered by local residents and the remaining 50 percent provided through a grant from Janki Rural Municipality.

The flowers will be sold at prevailing market rates. Residents also plan to prepare marigold garlands to meet customer demand and provide delivery services to designated locations based on orders. They have urged people to support the initiative by purchasing locally grown flowers.

By turning vacant roadside spaces into flower gardens, Belaspur residents have brought positive changes to the village’s environment and appearance. Supported by collective participation and local government assistance, the initiative has not only beautified the village but also created opportunities for local employment and income generation.
