Kathmandu: The Cabinet meeting of the Government of Nepal held on Friday has taken several key decisions, including convening a joint session of both houses of the Federal Parliament, arranging for the President to address the बैठक, and dismissing 15 Nepali honorary consuls serving in various countries.

The Cabinet has decided to recommend to the President to convene a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly with the objective of presenting the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year. As per the decision, members of parliament will be requested to be present so that the President can address the joint session on Monday, Baisakh 28, at 4:00 pm.

The meeting also decided to dismiss 15 Nepali honorary consuls, including Honorary Consuls General and Consuls, working in different countries abroad, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With this decision, the tenure of these envoys, who had been serving for a long time, has formally ended.

Meanwhile, the government has advanced the ratification process of two key international conventions aimed at making the labor sector more organized, safe, and dignified. A proposal from the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security has been approved to present the International Labor Organization’s Forced Labor Protocol of 2014 and the Labor Inspection Convention, 1947 to the Federal Parliament for ratification.

The government believes that ratifying these conventions will establish a stronger legal foundation for protecting labor rights, ensuring worker safety, and eliminating forced labor in Nepal.
