Attariya (Kailali): The construction of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) provincial office building in Dhangadhi has officially begun. Sudurpaschim Province’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Hira Sarki, laid the foundation stone for the building during a program today.

On the occasion, Minister Sarki expressed confidence that the new building will enhance RSS’s capacity in news dissemination and contribute to the overall development of journalism in Sudurpaschim Province.

He said, “The building is being constructed with the investment of the provincial government, and the construction company is confident that the work will be completed as soon as possible. The provincial government will continue to provide support to RSS in the coming days as well.”

He further stated that the provincial government’s investment is based on the belief that strengthening RSS’s physical infrastructure and resources will make it easier to highlight issues across Sudurpaschim. “This is not just about building construction, but also an initiative aligned with the policy of collaboration between the three levels of government and concerned bodies to highlight the potential and problems of the Far West and address them,” Minister Sarki said. “We believe the dream of a prosperous Far West can be realized only through partnership, development, and coordination among all parties. Accordingly, we have been working for the development of the journalism sector.”

Siddharaj Bhatta, Chief of the RSS Provincial Office Dhangadhi, expressed gratitude to the provincial government and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law for their support in the construction of the building. He also urged allocation of the necessary budget in the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 to complete the construction in line with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the ministry.

The ministry had already prepared and approved the DPR for the building last year. As per the DPR, the two-and-a-half-storey building was estimated to cost around Rs 23 million. However, construction has begun with Rs 7 million allocated under the current fiscal year’s annual development program.

The contract has been awarded to Purbi Himshikhar Construction Kailali, which submitted the lowest bid as per the DPR. The RSS Dhangadhi office, built as a single-storey structure in 2034–35 BS, had become dilapidated, prompting RSS management to submit a proposal to Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah two years ago for a new building.
