National assembly approves proposal to consider appropriation bill 2083
Kathmandu: The National Assembly meeting has approved a proposal to consider the Appropriation Bill, 2083, received with a message from the House of Representatives.
The proposal put forward by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle was approved by a majority in today’s meeting. Responding to questions raised by lawmakers, he clarified that some taxes have been imposed on education, health, and electricity in the budget for the benefit of the general public.
Stating that three-quarters of the country’s students study in community schools, Minister Dr. Wagle clarified that progressive taxes have been imposed on private schools with the objective of “those who can afford to give to those who cannot.” Similarly, he informed that the income tax exemption threshold has been increased to provide relief to the middle class.
Minister Dr. Wagle said that the budget of constitutional bodies could not be increased as the budget ceiling had already been fixed before the current government came to power. He added that the government has brought a budget and program aligned with ambitious economic development goals and has reformed the Ministry of Finance to make implementation more effective. Earlier, MPs Padam Bahadur Pariyar, Madan Kumari Shah (Garima), Roshni Meche, Narayan Dutt Mishra, Somnath Portel, and Bishnukumari Sapkota had expressed their views during the discussion on the proposal. The next meeting of the National Assembly will be held on Ashad 17 at 1:15 pm.
