RSVP Kailali tightens stance on Chhaugoth, non-compliant leaders barred from elections and party posts

Dhangadhi: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSVP) Kailali District Committee has taken a strict decision against the practice of Chhaugoth.

The district committee has decided that if a Chhaugoth is found in the house of any party leader or activist holding a responsible position or aspiring to become a candidate in the upcoming elections, it must be demolished within one month.

A meeting of the RSVP Kailali District Committee held in Chure Rural Municipality made it clear that anyone who fails to dismantle the Chhaugoth within the stipulated one-month period will neither be recommended as a candidate in the upcoming elections nor appointed to any responsible position in the party.

The party took the decision after observing during a district visit that 50 to 55 percent of houses in the hill municipalities of Kailali still have Chhaugoths, while the practice also continues in various municipalities in the Terai.

The party said forcing women to stay in unsafe sheds during menstruation exposes them to risks including snake bites, adverse weather conditions, various forms of violence and even death.

Stating that such inhumane practices cannot be continued in the name of tradition and religion, the party said the decision was taken to initiate reform among its own leaders and activists.
