Nepali Congress to Boycott Sudurpaschim Budget Discussions
Dhangadhi: The Nepali Congress, the main opposition party in Sudurpaschim, has decided to boycott discussions on the provincial budget amid escalating disputes over its contents.
Kamal Bahadur Shah, leader of the Congress parliamentary party and former Chief Minister, said the party would not participate in deliberations on the controversial budget.
He said the decision was made because the budget was considered unsuitable and the government had failed to coordinate adequately with the opposition.
A Provincial Assembly meeting was scheduled for 1:00 PM on Tuesday to discuss the budget. However, the meeting had not commenced even after the scheduled time had passed.
Earlier, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had agreed to form a parliamentary committee to investigate the budget and introduce a supplementary budget by Kartik 15. The NCP is preparing to address the contentious issues through the investigation while moving ahead with plans to pass the budget immediately.
