Clash in front of Bhatbhateni Dhangadhi: victim alleges assault and attempted abduction, police detain 14
Dhangadhi: The truth behind an incident that occurred in front of Bhatbhateni Super Store in Dhangadhi on June 17 has come to light after a video of a clash between several youths went public.
In the incident, an employee of Hungry Cafe, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that he was assaulted and an attempt was made to abduct him. According to information received, the matter, which initially began as a minor dispute two days prior, later escalated into a group attack.
The victim said that while returning home late after work, an argument broke out with a group of people who stopped his motorcycle on the road. He said the confrontation began after the motorcycle’s high beam light was switched off, after which the group started abusing him, asking, “Who is turning on the high beam?” He stated that even after he explained it was unintentional, they followed him on a motorcycle and assaulted him.
He further said that one individual accompanying the group introduced himself and questioned, “Brother, I know you, why did you beat me?” The victim responded, “Tell him who I am.” He added that despite identifying himself as working at Hungry Cafe, the group behaved aggressively. According to him, he suggested resolving the matter through discussion, saying, “Let’s sit down, talk, and solve it together,” but the situation did not calm down.
Two days later, at around 11:30 in the afternoon, the victim alleged that a group of 5–6 people entered the cafe, assaulted him, and attempted to drag him outside. He said they threatened him while taking him out, saying, “How dare you call us?” although he denied making any such call. He further claimed the group tried to force him onto a motorcycle and that he could have been taken away and possibly attacked with weapons if locals had not intervened. He said his life was saved due to the intervention of nearby residents.
The victim said that if he had committed any wrongdoing, the matter could have been discussed directly and he was even ready to apologize if necessary. However, he alleged that a group of 7–8 people arrived with weapons and attempted to endanger his life. He also stated that the incident has created serious tension within his family and that he now feels unsafe while going to work. Claiming he has not harmed anyone, he has demanded strict legal action against those involved.
Meanwhile, another dispute has emerged in the Bhatbhateni area related to the same incident. It has been stated that a “Bhatbhateni Photographers Association” was formed under the coordination of Arjun Jaigadhi, although it has not been officially registered as a committee. Ward Chair of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-3, Raj Bahadur Air, said the ward has no information about such a committee.
Following tensions that escalated between youths who had gone to take photographs on the issue, the District Police Office, Kailali, has taken 14 individuals from both sides under control. According to reports, when members linked to the committee went to the Bhatbhateni area this morning for photography work, some youths demanded inclusion in the committee, stating, “We are also unemployed, we should also be included in the committee,” which further escalated the dispute.
Local sources say the incident reflects a growing trend of youth groups becoming increasingly active in the Dhangadhi area. Groups such as “Cobra Sarkar,” “Nandu Sarkar,” and “Eagle Gang” are reportedly active on social media and allegedly involved in abusive language, threats, confrontations, and gang clashes. It is suspected that individuals associated with such groups may also have been involved in the Bhatbhateni incident.
