Bhote Koshi Floods Leave 677 Transport Workers Missing, 515 Trucks and Containers Unaccounted For

Kathmandu: The Federation of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Nepal has reported that 677 workers are missing following the Bhote Koshi floods.

The Federation disclosed the information during a meeting held on Thursday, coordinated by Rajeev Pokharel, Director General of the Department of Transport Management. It stated that 515 trucks and containers have also gone missing.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has formed a committee led by Director General Pokharel to assess the human and physical damage caused by the floods and prepare a report containing recommendations regarding the basis for compensation.

The committee has been tasked with submitting its report, including recommendations, within 15 days. While presenting preliminary details of the human and physical losses, the Federation indicated that the number of missing workers and lost trucks and containers could rise further.

The committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, the Infrastructure Development Minister’s secretariat, transport entrepreneurs, and transport workers’ unions. Its members include Rajendra Bikram Baniya, President of the Federation of Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Nepal, and Badri Prasad Chaulagai, General Secretary of the Federation.
