Dhangadhi: Outgoing Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has expressed interest in expediting bills that have remained pending before the Social Development Committee of the Provincial Assembly.

Shah and Dharma Raj Pathak, chairperson of the committee, held discussions on accelerating the clause-by-clause review of the stalled bills so they can be forwarded to the Provincial Assembly.

The discussions focused on prioritizing bills that have remained pending in the committee, speeding up the process of securing their passage through the Provincial Assembly, and bringing them into effect as laws.

The former government led by Shah had registered the “Bill to Make Provisions Regarding Tikapur University of Science and Technology” with the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Chaitra 3, 2081 BS. It had also registered the “Bill to Make Provisions Regarding the Preservation and Development of the Barghar and Bhalamansa Traditions in Sudurpaschim Province” on Jestha 21, 2082 BS.

As the bills remained stalled in the legislative process for an extended period, the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party in Sudurpaschim Province, during a meeting on Baishakh 17, 2083 BS, drew the Speaker’s attention to the need to initiate discussions without further delay.

Subsequently, both bills were tabled at the second meeting of the Provincial Assembly’s eighth session on Jestha 11. Following a general discussion on Jestha 20, they were referred to the Social Development Committee on Jestha 26 for a clause-by-clause review.

However, the bills have yet to be finalized despite reaching the committee. Shah and Committee Chairperson Pathak have now discussed the need to complete the review of the two bills, along with other proposals pending before the committee, and forward them to the Provincial Assembly without further delay.
