Election commission imposes campaign silence from Falgun 18 midnight, restricts vehicle movement from Falgun 20

Kathmandu: The Election Commission has announced a complete ban on election campaigning beginning midnight on Falgun 18 (Monday). The Commission has requested the government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, to instruct Chief District Officers and security agencies in all districts to ensure strict compliance with the election code of conduct during this period.

According to the Commission, the operation of vehicles, except those providing essential services, will be prohibited from midnight on Falgun 20 until the evening of Falgun 21, when voting is completed.

The Commission has directed that the District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee be mobilized to prevent activities prohibited under Section 24 of the Election (Offences and Punishments) Act, 2073, and Sections 17 and 18 of the Election Code of Conduct 2082. It has also instructed authorities to take action in accordance with the law in cases of violations.

During the restriction period, ambulances, fire engines, hearses, blood transfusion service vehicles, security agency vehicles, vehicles engaged in electricity, water supply and sewage maintenance, telecommunication service maintenance vehicles, vehicles belonging to diplomatic missions, and vehicles operating with election passes will be permitted to function.
