Dhangadhi: The Dhangadhi Milk Distribution Project under the Dairy Development Corporation located in Kanari, Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-15, has collected revenue of Rs 6 crore so far in the current fiscal year 2082/83.

The Milk Distribution Project, which collects milk from various cooperatives and firms in Dadeldhura, Kailali and Kanchanpur in Sudurpaschim Province, processes the collected milk into quality milk, curd, mahi, paneer, ice cream and other dairy products and sells them in the local market, informed Project Chief Nirajan Bhattarai.

According to him, the dairy products produced by the project are being sold in markets including Dhangadhi, Attariya, Dadeldhura, Dipayal and currently the Tikapur market area. The project collects 3,000 to 3,500 liters of milk daily and has collected around 1.2 million liters of milk so far in the current fiscal year.

He further stated that unsold milk is sent to other projects of the corporation. The project collects 3,000 to 3,500 liters of milk daily from Baisakh to Asoj, while during Kartik to Chaitra, the collection rises to 6,000 to 7,000 liters.

“There are two seasons of milk production. Milk production is high from Kartik to Chaitra and low from Baisakh to Asoj,” he said. “Dairy products such as curd, mahi, ice cream and others are sold more during the summer season, while milk production decreases. Similarly, in winter, since consumption of curd and mahi decreases, production also declines.”

The project has introduced new products such as ice cream, cumin mahi and lassi in the market and aims to further increase production in the future. It has future plans to expand milk collection to other hilly districts as well.

Chief Bhattarai said the goal is also to supply quality dairy products produced by the project to Mahendranagar market in Kanchanpur, other markets, as well as government offices and institutions.

Currently, the project has its own milk collection centers in Belauri (Kanchanpur), Gulara and Lamki (Kailali), and from Baisakh this year, also in Basanta, Tikapur.

Similarly, the project has been selling milk, yogurt, mohi, paneer, ghee and ice cream at reasonable prices through its own sales center established in its building.

The project under the Dairy Development Institute, established in Attariya on Jestha 11, 2067 BS, has been operating from Kanari, Dhangadhi since Poush 11, 2082 BS.
