Mahendranagar: Traffic police have established passenger assistance desks at 27 locations across Sudurpaschim Province ahead of the upcoming festivals of Bada Dashain and Tihar.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Navaraj Karki, Chief of the Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office, said the desks were established to facilitate the journeys of travelers returning home from within the country and abroad during the festive season and to ensure accident-free vehicle operations.

"We have also stepped up traffic checks in Sudurpaschim during the festive period," Karki said. "Action will be taken against vehicles that charge excessive fares by taking advantage of the festival season."

According to the traffic police, assistance desks have been set up at 10 locations in Kailali, eight in Kanchanpur, and across the seven hill districts.

On Sunday, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sanuram Bhattarai, Chief of the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, inaugurated a passenger assistance desk at the bus park in Attariya, Kailali.

"Regular checks are being conducted on the East-West Highway as well as on roads in the hill districts," SP Karki said. "We urge passengers to contact the Nepal Police hotline (100), the traffic police hotline (103), the passenger assistance desks, or the nearest police unit if they face any issues."
