Government allocates budget to modernize Dhangadhi stadium with floodlights

Dhangadhi: The Government of Nepal has allocated a budget for the installation of floodlights and the construction of necessary sports infrastructure at Dhangadhi Football Stadium through the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the budget on Friday, Jestha 15.

This decision is considered significant, particularly as preparations are underway to operate the Nepal Super League (NSL) in a ‘home and away’ system.

For the first time in Nepal’s history, the NSL 2026, which will be held in a ‘home and away’ format starting from Bhadra 20, is expected to run for about four months. Under this competition, Dhangadhi FC will play its home matches at Dhangadhi Stadium.

However, considering the budget announcement and the timeline of the construction process, it appears unlikely that the installation of floodlights and completion of all infrastructure will be achieved within this season. Stakeholders note that the NSL matches scheduled to begin in Bhadra next year are more likely to be conducted using existing infrastructure, as adequate time is required for budget implementation, design, contract processes, and construction.

Nevertheless, with the government’s commitment to installing floodlights through the budget, it is expected that Dhangadhi Stadium will be equipped with modern sports infrastructure by the following season. Once the floodlights are completed, organizing evening and night matches in Dhangadhi is expected to become easier, further strengthening the capacity to host national and international-level competitions.

This investment in sports infrastructure development is anticipated to play a significant role in establishing the Far West not only as a hub for producing talent but also as a destination for major sporting events.
