Three Teachers Arrested in Kailali Over Alleged Caste-Based Discrimination at School

Chaumala: Three teachers have been arrested for alleged caste-based discrimination and the practice of untouchability at Bhairav Basic School in Moya, Gauriganga Municipality-6, Kailali.

Teachers Bhagawati Badaila, Bhagawati Regmi, and Tekraj Upadhyay were arrested following complaints lodged by students and parents from the Dalit community.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hira Singh Mahara, chief of the Malakheti Area Police Office, stated that the three arrested teachers are currently being held at the station while the incident is under investigation.

They are accused of subjecting students from the Dalit community, as well as the School Management Committee chairperson, a female teacher, and an office assistant, to discriminatory behavior based on caste.

Kailash Auji, a member of the school committee, reported that caste-based discrimination was directed at School Management Committee Chairperson Chakra Bahadur BK, teacher Bina BK, office assistant Laxmi Devi Damai, and Dalit students.

Following the public disclosure of the incident, locals, parents, and various stakeholders demanded an impartial investigation into the alleged caste-based discrimination at the school and the public release of the facts.

The Constitution of Nepal prohibits caste-based discrimination and untouchability.
